My daughter is 2. Her bedroom is at the top of a very steep stairwell, and she wanders at night. So my husband and I asked some other parents we know for advice and they suggested a small clasp hook for her door (on the outside) to keep her in her room during the night. We have an intercom system in our home, which she knows how to use and uses, and we have a baby monitor in her room as well, so we are always monitoring her. Before we put the hook on her door, one night she laid on the top step and went back to sleep, a very dangerous position, and another time went downstairs and got into the fridge and made a huge mess during the night. We feel this is for her own safety, but my mom says it's abuse to lock her in at night. Who is right here?
