Cycle seats for small children/babies + helmets?

May 21, 2009

I have had a child seat fitted to the back of my bike for my 11month old son, it is a standard upright seat that looks a little like a child car seat, comes up about 3″ above his head and has a 3 point harness. The problem is when you put on the safety helmet – which adds about 2 inches behind his head, his head is pushed forward so he spends the whole time looking at his knees and gets very upset. Does anyone know of any flat back helmets or other options?

Bengal – is he ok, crying louder/longer and also bit of coughing?

May 18, 2009

I always fuss over my 2 little begal babies, had them for 2 years now and they are gorgeous.

My little boy Bengal had always been quite vocal especially if he is not in the same room as me (unfotunatley sometimes i do have to keep him out of certain rooms for his own safety!) but the last 2 weeks he has become increasingly vocal.

He is crying louder (and deeper – that terrible heartbreaking cry they do) and also still doing it when we are in same rooms as him all the time when he is awake. The last two nights he has also had about 10 mins in the middle of the nigth coughing (like he is wheesily coughing up phleym but nothing comes up) then afterwards (and during day) he does not cough.

The only other time he coughs like this is if he drinks from the tap which he has always done and the vet didn't think it was an issue?.

I also took him outside into the garden when it was warm 2 weeks ago on a harness as he had not been outside before.

Are these things connected? I am totally fine with his crying as it doesnt bother me but is it normal and could it be connected to his cough he has had?/going outside?

I don't want any unecessary distress taking him to the vets if it is nothing as it is VERY mild and has only happened a couple of times but its just that he is crying more too i though't i'd maybe get him checked out?.

He is also eating and looks healthy (eyes/nose etc) and his 'activity' and toilet habits are normal. .
UPDATE – Hi Autumn,

No not got any answers on this coughin after drinking from tap!!! i wonder if anyone else has this with theirs – it is v strange – I may post a message on Facebook bengal page to see ………

The Importance of a 5 Point Harness Car Seat – Belle’s Gift

May 18, 2009

Our three year old daughter was killed in a car accident on 13 April 2006. A truck crossed over the centre lines and our vehicle hit a tree when trying to avoid a collision with the truck. Our seven year old walked away from the crash, but Isabelle was fatally injured by the adult seatbelt used with her booster seat. There were no warnings about the dangers involved in using adult belts with toddlers. The law in Australia allows children as young as 12 months to use only an adult belt. This …

What can I do about my friend?

May 13, 2009

I’m living in oldest son of a family who is very good friend with mine. I’m attending university in area he have main house in. He’s letting me living there for free as long as I keep the place clean. It’s quite nice because there are two rooms available that he only rent to foreign students and one for any foreigners tourist he happen to bump in. Also he’s not home too often.
The oldest son is 31 years old and I’ve knew him since I was a baby. He was pretty much a black sheep of the family because his biological father left him and his mother when he was seven years old and his sister was two. So he never really got along with his step dad which makes things very hard on the family. On top of that, he have a huge loss of hearing in both ears so he often have a hard time to hear things and follow conversation unless he’s close to the speaker or watching their lips. So he was pretty much a outcast.
He ended up get GED so he can join army at seventeen. He was in the army until 2002 then no one really knew where he was for next couple years because he was never home and barely stays in touch with anybody. Then he finally came back and bought a house and couples other things such as couple cars and motorcycle, and other things.
Last year I moved in with him. I have got known to him a bit better, but he’s still very odd. He seems to have been all over the world already, and often talk with foreigners in amazing details about different places they have been to, often speak in other languages, and can easily spot a foreigner and guess where they’re from with fairly accurate result.
He also seems to have absolutely no regard for his own safety, he have been thrown in prison in other countries more than once, taking pictures of himself doing dangerous things such as riding on outside of train in India or have someone taking picture of him doing bull run, sporting a firearms and other things. He often do crazy things on motorcycle or ATV and get hurt and come back home and laugh about it. Once I needed a ride and was in hurry so he took me in his Japanese made car instead of muscle car he usually drive, the way he drove was just downright scary, he skid as he turn around the corner, wave around cars, rarely stop, and other things while driving really fast. I got mad at him for this and he thought it was funny and say he have done it on curvy road on mountain before. He’s also always doing things such as rock climbing without harness, sky diving, and other things.
Also every time there’s a conflict in other country, he rushed right there. He often says the most fun thing to do is to be in a war zone or close to it. Also for living, he goes around the world and help business get started in various countries.
Plus he already say he’s really deep in debt and doesn’t really care and that only thing paid off is the house we live in. He also brought in foreign girls for night on regular base. Other thing is, he have tons of scars all over and it isn’t unusual for him to come home from other country with some sort of injury.
I’m getting really worried about him and don’t know what to do. I feel like there’s something really wrong with him.

Whats the best double stroller (running, small folding, easy to push, mid price)?

May 9, 2009

I have a ten month old and a 3 year old. I have a safety first tandem double stroller right now, stadium seating one in back one if front. Its just HUGE (unfolded and folded!) and it weighs about 50 tons. Also the baby can get out of the darn seatbelts on the 5pt harness so i have to put him in the seat with the 3pt, which he could still get out of. ~~I want a double stroller, im thinking jogging (with 3 wheels?) that breaks down smaller, is a lot easier to push, has a good sun canopy that prodides shade, and buckles that arent so loose and flimsy as the one i have! Anyone have any good reccomendations?

foward facing carseat in the front seat with an airbag?

May 5, 2009

my oldest is 7 and I keep her in a 5 point harness carseat, I have a new baby due in September and just split with my husband which means I now can not afford the van I was planning on upgrading to.
My front seat has an air bag.
there is NO switch to turn it off.
can I pay to have it disabled?
I very very rarely get on the freeway, and although I can scoot the front seat as far away from the airbag as possible I would hate for it to go off….but financially I have no other choice right now.
No "bashing" for me putting her in the front seat please. I don't exactly have a choice, my car isn't worth anything to trade in, and it's all I have at the moment, I'd be more than happy to buy a new one where they all fit in back IF I had ANY means to do so!

Further more I can't find anything saying it's illegal, I'm not only worried about the safety issue of it but also the legal one.
I looked up the laws here in SC ( lexington county ) and it seems perfectly legal. ?????
Cleveland Consumer Law – my newborn as well as my younger children will be in the back, my 7 year old would be the one in the front….
