While I agree children should be in a 5 pt harness until 5 or 6, I have one problem with the message this video is sending. It says that seat belts are unsafe and you should use LATCH – the problem with that is you can only use LATCH until 40 or 48 lbs – then you have to use a seatbelt to secure the carseat!

nope. Latch is the new alternative to seatbelts. The difference between the two systems is ease of use.
Seatbelts are okay for anchoring car seats if done properly. But Latch is recommended for their ease of use. Alot of parents can install car seats but 70-90 pecent fails to install them properly. For more information contact your nearest child hospital or police department for more information.
Unfortunately LATCH can be harder than using a seatbelt- so try both, and whichever lets you get the best install use! You can see a Child Passenger Safety Technician at a seat check to have help with installation, and make sure it’s used correctly.

The information I gave was correct –
LATCH CANNOT be used after a certain weight (either 40 or 48 pounds) – you have to check your car manual to see what weight your LATCH anchors are rated for. After this weight you must use the seat belt.
I have my 5 year old in a 5 point harness, but at 45 pounds, he is over the weight my vehicle allows for LATCH – his seat is secured with a seat belt.

I have been online shoping for new carseats for my kids and trying to decide, booster or expensive 5 point seat. About 10 seconds into your video the word expense had a whole new meaning. I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot express enough gratitude for the information. I was under the assumption that it was okay to put my 3 yr old in booster as well. I just purchased 2 today. They will be going back and we will be getting the Britax Frontier.

I accidently came across this video while trying to find crash test ratings for car seats. i was looking for a car seat for my 13 mth. old daughter. I thought my 4 yr old son was fine in his turbo booster but now i am going out to find him a new 5 point harness seat. i had no idea he could still be in a harness carseat still. thank you so much for posting a video about your son. i am truly grateful!

How horrible….I am going to make sure I look into this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She is in a 5 point now as she is only 25 pounds, but if it is possible to keep her in one until she is 8o pounds, you better believe I am going to do it.

I watched your video a couple of years ago and was so profoundly moved by it. Words can’t express the grace of your loving tribute in helping to save other children and spare their parents of an endless grief.

Thank you for sharing your story of this incredibly painful loss of a child. We are using a Sunshine Kids Radian80 seat that is rated for up to 80 lbs with a 5 pt harness. My daughter is only 25 lbs and 16 months, but we plan to use this for many years in the future. Thanks again for getting the message out.
